Which class should I take?
FUNdamental classes are introductory programs for students wishing to learn the basics of rhythmic gymnastics. Choreography is created to perform for parents and friends at local club events with an emphasis on group participation. The circus arts we also incorporate into our classes follow National Circus School curriculum guidelines.
FUNdamental rhythmic gymnasts can participate in performance opportunities:
Show What You Know days, Spring show, Choreography Cup. Performances are optional.
Circus students participate in any performance opportunities available to our rhythmic gymnasts.
Interclub competitive programs are for students wishing to move from FUNdamental to a competitive experience. Check out our Competitive Programs for more information.
What do FUNdamental students need to wear?
Close fitting attire is mandatory for all classes. This would be a yoga pant and top, bodysuit and spandex shorts or bodysuit with or without an attached skirt. Male students may wear comfortable pants or shorts and t-shirt.
What about footwear?
Bare feet are preferred. White low cut or ankle socks are fine too. Our club sells special RG slippers in limited sizes. Fantasy Costumes in Red Deer also stocks slippers suitable for RG. Ask your coach before you purchase for helpful advice.
Our FUNdamental students get to use our club equipment during classes. Occasionally, kids ask if they can take stuff home for practice. Sorry, due to the HUGE amount of equipment that never comes back to the club, we no longer provide this service. Instead, if you really want your own equipment, we have some stocked in the gym for purchase or ask our advice where you can get your own.
I have a hula hoop at home, can I bring it to class?
Ummm, NO. Rhythmic Gymnastics hoops are heavier than toy hoops and are different than hoops used for the similar sport of HOOPING. We have ones you can buy if you want your own and our coaches will even decorate them to your specifications.
What about a skipping rope? I have one of those too…
Again, no. Rhythmic gymnastics ropes used for competition fulfill weight requirements and have no handles on them. Beginners and Intro to Competitive students can use the ones we have in the gym but if you want your own, you can get rope at Canadian Tire for example, and tie off the ends. Please let us show you a sample of a good recreational–use rope in our gym and how to fix the ends. If you buy rope at Canadian Tire, drop your Canadian Tire money in the bin on the way out and help support an athlete in our club.
If my child is sick, do I bring them to class?
It does happen that kids arrive at class seemingly perfectly healthy and then part way through the class they feel sick in some way. Our coaches adhere to Gymnastics Canada advice, which is to err on the side of caution and if a child complains of illness, we ask them to sit apart from the activity.
When a child may not say anything but appears to be ill or injured, again, we will ask them to sit at the side. If it seems urgent, parents will be contacted for pick up.
If your child has anything communicable, please keep them home especially when coughing, sneezing and other bodily fluids may be involved! We sanitize our equipment frequently to help protect you and our carpet has an anti-bacterial coating on it, but since most viruses and common infections seem to be airborne, please keep them at home. Please send an email email@example.com to let us know they are not attending.
Do you refund fees for holidays?
It is becoming more common for families to take extended vacations during our regular season.
Often we are asked if we can refund fees to compensate for their absence.
No, sorry we do not refund fees for any of our programs.
