Rhythmic Gymnastics is a beautiful sport combining graceful movement with colourful apparatus. Rhythmic gymnasts use balls, hoops, ropes, clubs and ribbons to perform their routines.

Rhythmic gymnastics is the OTHER gymnastics, not to be confused with artistic gymnastics, which uses apparatus such as beam, vault and uneven bars. Some acrobatic skills have been borrowed from artistic gymnastics, but only specific ones can be performed in a competitive rhythmic gymnastics routine. Forward and backwards rolls, cartwheels, and forward and backwards walkovers are allowed. These acrobatic movements are usually performed quickly, and without flight, and must be in harmony with the apparatus.

Rhythmic Gymnasts attempt to show balances, leaps, pivots while demonstrating flexibility and coordination. Movements should match the style of the music. Generally, the apparatus is to remain constantly in motion. Rhythmic gymnastics routines performed for competition follow rules set out by the Federation International de Gymnastique (F.I.G.) Code of Points. The largest gathering of gymnastics performance groups from around the world is the World Gymnaestrada held every four years.  World Gymnaestrada was in July, 2019 in Dornbirn, Austria and CARGO was there!
